Happy Winter!
As I watch it snow and blow for the umpteenth time so far this season, even though I am a winter lover, shoveling is definitely losing it’s charm! I hope everyone is staying warm, and safe this winter.
This past fall has seen a lot of change for ENYACRL. First, our Past President Suzy Palmer moved to Kentucky, leaving a void in our midst. We all miss her a great deal. Shortly after Suzy’s move, Deb Schmidle, our Government Relations Chair, started her new position at NYLINK and subsequently resigned her Board position with ENYACRL. We are currently looking into replacing her on the board, and will hopefully have someone in place shortly. We will miss Deb’s presence on the Board, but wish her the best at her new position.
Our fall conference, held in Syracuse, was once again a success. Playing on the ACRL President’s theme, our theme “New York Realities-New York Relationships” was well received by all who attended. We were fortunate to have Patricia Wand, University Librarian at American University in Washington, as our Preconference Dinner speaker. We were also able to coincide our conference with the Syracuse University School of Information Studies 21st Century Librarian Awards and Luncheon. It was wonderful to be a part of this great new award.
This spring we will be traveling to Utica for our Annual Meeting and conference, “2003: a (Library) Space Odyssey ” on May 9th, 2003. The SUNY Institute of Technology will be moving into their new library building this coming March, and it seemed to be a perfect fit with our spring topic. Dan Schabert, Library Director, will be hosting. Thank you to Dan and his colleagues!
This summer we will have the luxury of having an American Library Association Annual meeting within driving distance. The combined ALA/Canadian Library Association Conference will be held in Toronto, this coming June. I would like to encourage everyone to attend as we don’t get this travel opportunity too often. Stay tuned for more information on transportation, and crossing the boarder.
Please consider volunteering for either a Board position, or a committee. You can contact any board member for more information.
Take care, and stay warm,
Kristin
