9:15-10:00am<\/strong>: Speaker: Annie Seidl, MLIS, “Visible Meaning: Notes from a Documentary Film Production”<\/p>\n

\"\"Annie Seidl (MLIS, University of Denver, 1999) loves librarians so much that a) she became one and b) she made a movie about them. Begun while Seidl was still in library school, The Hollywood Librarian took 8 1\/2 years from conception to premiere. It has been screened in the U.S., Canada, England, Germany, Australia and a half dozen other countries.<\/p>\n

Seidl went to high school in Wyoming, attended Vassar College, lived and worked in Australia for a time, and currently makes her home in Syracuse, New York.<\/p>\n

10:15-11:00am<\/strong>: Speaker: Roxanne Shirazi, \u201cUnseen and Unremarked Upon: The Reproductive Labor of Librarians in the Academy\u201d<\/p>\n

\"\"Roxanne Shirazi is Dissertation Research Librarian and Assistant Professor at the Graduate Center, City University of New York. She is a founding co-editor of\u00a0dh+lib<\/em>\u00a0(“where the digital humanities and librarianship meet”), an online publication and collaborative project sponsored by the Association of College & Research Libraries (ACRL). She studies the nexus of digital humanities and academic librarianship, with an emphasis on scholarly communication, copyright, graduate student research, and digital dissertations. Her current research includes work on digital scholarly editions and digital archives, librarianship as a feminized profession, and the history of the Dissertation Secretary in graduate studies.<\/p>\n

\"\"Bernard van Maarseveen (MLS, Queens College) grew up going to the Scotia Branch of the Schenectady County Public Library, Albany’s old Pine Hills branch, and SUNY Albany’s University Library. He hopes soon to reconcile his overdue fines. Since 1998 he has worked at the New York Public Library, and since 2001 has been\u00a0a reference librarian in AskNYPL (the Library’s telephone and virtual reference service). He lives in Long Island City with his wife and son.<\/p>\n
