Beall will advise researchers how to recognize and avoid such journals that\u00a0pretend to be legitimate but trick scholars into submitting money and papers to them for publication. Beall\u00a0is the author of the Scholarly Open Access blog and compiler of Beall\u2019s List of Predatory, Open Access\u00a0Publishers.<\/p>\n<p><b>Open Access: What\u2019s in it for Authors?<br \/>\n<\/b>Tuesday, October 22 10\u201311 a.m. Bird Library, Peter Graham Scholarly Commons<br \/>\nSU faculty members Ian Gallacher (College of Law), Krista Kennedy (College of Arts &amp; Sciences, Writing &amp;\u00a0Rhetoric), and Omer Preminger (College of Arts &amp; Sciences, Linguistics) will discuss their perspectives on\u00a0open access as faculty members, scholars, and authors, and will share their experiences in making their\u00a0own work open access.<\/p>\n<p><b>Issues in Digital Scholarship Forum<br \/>\n<\/b>Wednesday, October 23 4\u20135 p.m. Bird Library, Peter Graham Scholarly Commons<br \/>\nAlbrecht Diem (SU Department of History) will talk about his participation in a collaborative online\u00a0translation project of Hildemar of Corbie\u2019s 9th century Commentary on the Rule of Benedict. Chris Forster\u00a0(SU Department of English) will discuss his work applying \u201cdistant reading\u201d techniques to 20th century\u00a0works in his investigation of the history of obscenity and literature.<\/p>\n<p><b>OA Journal Publishing at SU Libraries and Press: Public: A Journal of Imagining America<br \/>\n<\/b>Thursday, October 24 12\u20131 p.m. Bird Library, Peter Graham Scholarly Commons<br \/>\nPanelists will discuss the newly launched OA journal, Public: A Journal of Imagining America, supported\u00a0jointly by SU Libraries and SU Press. Founding co-editors and designers Brian Lonsway and Kathleen\u00a0Brandt will discuss the project\u2019s origins and execution.
