Dr. Dames will examine how “piracy” represents a socio-cultural standard about copyright that is rooted in historical beliefs about property, business and commerce. He also will explain how the “piracy paradigm” conflicts with an emerging “open paradigm” standard, which open access proponents advocate, and how this friction manifests itself in copyright discourse, legislation, and policy.
